Before I proceed, here is something for you to keep in mind. Lemon oil is filled with a natural cleansing agent called d-limonene, which is so potent that the oil dissolves plastic containers, but don’t worry! The oil can be applied safely to your skin as well as your children’s with the following tips:

Make sure to mix 2 to 4 drops of Lemon oil with 10 ml of vegetable oil before applying to your skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If this happens, rinse well with vegetable oil, not with water. Lemon oil can cause photo-sensitivity; avoid sunlight and UV rays for at least 12 to 48 hours after applying the product.

Here is another tip:

Although Lemon oil is potent enough to dissolve plastic, it can be used safely on many surfaces, such as glass, stainless steel, wood and ceramic.

Now, are you ready?

For Cough & Cold:

Got a sore throat? Rub a mixture of Lemon and vegetable oils directly on the throat. Start at the base of the ears and continue with downward strokes along the sides of the neck. Rub from the underside of the chin down both sides of the trachea. Repeat up to three times daily.

Are you congested? If you are, Lemon oil can be useful in breaking down mucous and clearing up congestion. Apply 3 to 12 drops of Lemon oil to a bowl of steaming water and deeply inhale the steam. If the steaming water is not available to you, I’ve got an easier method for you to try. Apply 1 to 6 drops of Lemon oil to a tissue or handkerchief and occasionally inhale up to three times daily. You can simply use a diffuser or have a calming bath with Epsom salt as well! No matter what method you use to clear up congestion, Lemon’s got your back!

Warm compresses for your nasty coughs? Infuse your compress with Lemon oil to help alleviate symptoms of coughs and colds! First, add two drops of Lemon oil to a bottle filled with 500 ml of warm water. Second, shake the bottle well and soak your compress. Then, gently squeeze the compress to remove excess moisture. Finally, apply the compress directly on the forehead, across the nose and cheeks, on the throat or the chest. By the way, it can also be placed over the ears as a remedy for earaches stemming from head cold congestion. Or, cover the compress with a towel and leave in place for 2 to 4 hours. You can apply your compress up to three times each day.
